Experience has taught me that the best outcomes come from bringing people together, respecting different perspectives, and focusing on solutions instead of division. 

 

Planning for the future includes investing in the infrastructure we depend on every day, protecting our natural environment, strengthening our resilience to climate change impacts and carefully create a community for all — one that is affordable, accessible, healthy, and sustainable — and where residents are supported at every stage of life — Saanich is a community for all.

Three projects I was pleased to have moved forward:

  1. When Chair of the Victoria Regional Transit Commission we worked with the UVIC and Camosun Student Societies to establish the UPASS Program. We also implemented the first bike racks on buses which are now standard features.

  2. When Chair of Healthy Saanich Advisory Cte we wrote the Provincial Gov’t to select Saanich as the chosen municipality to represent them in the WHO Age-Friendly Cities program. We were selected, there were 32 countries involved and I was the Community Leader. That work contributes to our citizens,  as they age, being able to count on healthy lifestyle choices, active participation in community life, and safe and secure “age-friendly” surroundings.

  3. Again, as Chair of Healthy Saanich we created a book called “Saanich Then and Now”. We brought pioneers and youth together, one pioneer and two youth. They answered questions of each other based on growing up in Saanich and we created the book from their answers. There is something magical in creating intergenerational projects like this.
