Jäger Rosenberg: Candidate for Gibsons Council

My name is Jäger Rosenberg, and I am running for Gibsons Town Council. Born and raised in Gibsons, I have spent years involved in grassroots politics, community organizing, democratic reform, and advocacy for affordability and climate resilience on the Sunshine Coast.
I became involved in politics at a young age because I believe young people should have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their communities and futures. At 17, I ran as a candidate for a provincial nomination contest for the 2024 election, and in 2025 I stepped onto the national political stage as a candidate in West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country, becoming the youngest candidate in that federal election. I also began working full-time at 14, which gave me a deep understanding of the unacceptable inequality in our country.
I am a big supporter of democratic reform. I presented to British Columbia’s Special Committee on Democratic and Electoral Reform, where I advocated for expanding youth participation in democracy, including lowering the voting age. I have also contributed to the Gibsons Citizens’ Assembly on Housing, engaging with community members around one of the most pressing issues facing Gibsons and communities across British Columbia.
Beyond my own elections, I have worked on several progressive campaigns locally in British Columbia and internationally in Germany, and have held positions in electoral district organizations, youth political organizations, and provincial political councils. These experiences have given me a practical understanding of grassroots organizing, and the importance of making political institutions accessible and accountable.
As a young person who grew up and continues to live in Gibsons, I am particularly interested in ensuring that young people can afford to build their lives here rather than being pushed out by housing costs and lack of opportunity. At the municipal level, I want to contribute to practical work on housing, climate resilience, local infrastructure, transportation, community services, and opportunities for people of all generations to participate in civic life.
My candidacy is rooted in the belief that good government should be accessible, democratic, transparent, and responsive to the people it serves. I hope to bring the perspective of a younger generation while drawing on the experience I have gained through years of grassroots political and community involvement.
How I will advance the interests of Young British Columbians:
-
Advocating for affordable housing options including rentals.
-
Supporting improved recreational spaces that keep youth active and connected.
-
Pushing for reliable, free, accessible public transit options that connect young people to jobs, education, and social activities across the Sunshine Coast.
-
Standing up for living wages, safe working conditions, and stable local jobs as a Sunshine Coast Labour Council endorsed candidate.
-
Using my extensive experience in youth leadership to ensure municipal policies directly address the economic and climate concerns of younger generations.
-
Work to empower students in local government, by collaborating with the student representative on council and calling for a lower voting age, to ensure that they feel heard in major decisions.
