Jash Bains: Candidate for Mission Council

JashBains2026-1434.jpg

I am a School Trustee, healthcare worker, union leader and community volunteer running for Mission City Council. I came to Canada as an immigrant, built my life in Mission, and understand firsthand the challenges families face when trying to find stability, affordable housing, reliable services and opportunities for their children.

My experience in governance has taught me that leadership is about listening, asking the right questions, being accountable and making decisions based on evidence and the needs of the community.

How I will advocate for Young British Columbians

1. Make Mission a place where young people can build a future.
Young people should not feel that they have to leave their community to find opportunities. I will support responsible economic development, diverse employment opportunities and planning that allows Mission to grow while remaining a community where people can afford to live and build their lives.

2. Support housing affordability and responsible growth.
Housing is one of the biggest challenges facing younger generations. I will support thoughtful housing growth, faster and more predictable permitting, and development that considers infrastructure, transportation, schools and community services at the same time.

3. Invest in youth spaces, recreation and community programs.
Young people need places to connect, participate and feel that they belong. I will advocate for accessible recreation, youth programming, community spaces and opportunities for young people to contribute to Mission.

4. Make municipal decisions with future generations in mind.
The decisions Council makes today will shape Mission for decades. I believe we should consider the long-term effects of major decisions on affordability, infrastructure, the environment and the quality of life of future generations.

5. Protect the everyday services residents depend on.
Growth and economic development are important, but residents also need functioning roads, public safety, parks, snow clearing, garbage collection and other basic municipal services. I want Mission to be ambitious about its future while making sure the fundamentals are working today.

6. Bring transparency, accountability and responsible budgeting to Council.
As a School Trustee and community board member, I have experience working within budgets, asking questions and making decisions with public resources. I will advocate for clear information about where tax dollars are going, responsible spending and measurable results.

7. Give young people a meaningful voice in local government.
Young people should not be treated as an afterthought in municipal decision-making. I want to create more opportunities for youth to be heard and involved in conversations about housing, recreation, transportation, climate, employment and the future of Mission.

I believe young British Columbians deserve communities where they can afford to live, feel safe, participate, build careers and raise families. My goal is to bring practical experience, openness and a strong commitment to community service to Mission City Council.
