Jay Lundgren: Candidate for Mayor of Langley Township

Jay Lundgren grew up in the Township of Langley, went to school here, and earned his Bachelor of Business Administration at Trinity Western University. He is VP of Business Development and Partnerships at Langley’s Agency Media and a partner in Ava.ai and Coastal Drone, and previously served as VP of Marketing and Philanthropy for Habitat for Humanity.

For more than a decade Jay has volunteered as a coach to over 600 young athletes with Elevate Basketball Club, Langley Girls Academy, Valley Ball Hockey, Langley Baseball and local high school teams. He and his wife Melissa are raising their four children in the Township.

HOW I WILL ADVOCATE FOR YOUNG BRITISH COLUMBIANS:

  1. Housing young people can afford. At Habitat for Humanity, Jay raised the money to get affordable homes built. As Mayor he will weigh development charges, permit fees and approval times, the costs Council controls, against what a young household can actually carry.

  2. A Langley Youth Council. Langley Strong will create a youth council of local high school student council presidents that brings its priorities directly to Council at least once a year.

  3. A debt plan the next generation can see. Township debt per household has more than tripled since 2022, and young residents will repay it. Jay is committing to a published debt plan with targets, timelines and annual public reporting.

  4. Decisions young people can follow and join. Reports public before the vote, debate at times working residents can attend, and reasons explained in plain language.

  5. Jobs and recreation for young people. A youth jobs initiative encouraging Langley businesses to hire local teens, free recreation admission for children under 12, and the teen Summer Fun Pass extended to other seasons.

"The kids I coached ten years ago are now young adults trying to work out whether they can afford to stay in the place that raised them. I want my own four children to have that chance too. YBC4BG exists to give that generation a real voice in local decisions, and that is exactly the kind of Township Hall I want to lead: one that listens first, shows its numbers, and plans for the people who will live with its choices longest." - Jay Lundgren
