Lauren Chalus:
Candidate for Langley Township Council

Lauren Chalus has lived in the Township of Langley for more than ten years and calls the Salmon River area home. She is a Stakeholder Engagement Advisor at BC Hydro, previously led project engagement in BC Hydro’s Indigenous Relations team, and spent nearly four years in Stakeholder Relations on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, after earlier roles with FortisBC and the City of Mission.
Lauren holds a Bachelor of Environment in Resource and Environmental Management from Simon Fraser University, with a minor in Indigenous Studies. She sits on the Township’s Heritage Advisory Committee and lives with her husband Brody.
HOW I WILL ADVOCATE FOR YOUNG BRITISH COLUMBIANS
-
Affordability for young families and working professionals. Lauren is living it. She will test every tax, fee and utility decision against what a household starting out can actually carry, and push for housing choices that let them stay.
-
Consultation that comes first. Real public input with time and information to respond, meetings scheduled when working people can attend, and a clear account of how that input shaped the decision.
-
Evidence-based, transparent decisions. Reports released before the vote, open reporting on debt and capital projects, and reasoning Council can explain to anyone who asks.
-
Reconciliation through relationships. More than a decade of work with First Nations, governments and communities on complex projects, brought to how the Township builds partnerships.
-
Growth with the infrastructure to match. Roads, utilities, parks and services sequenced alongside new development, so new neighbourhoods are complete communities from the start.
"I wasn’t planning to run. I am running because people my age are working full time and still doing the math on whether they can afford to stay in Langley, while the decisions driving those costs are made before residents are asked. My career is built on bringing people to the table early. YBC4BG is working to make sure young British Columbians are at that table, and I am proud to have their support."
