Michael Moses is a First Nations and community leader in the City of Williams Lake.  He works hard to improve the quality of life for his community, including serving as the President of the Canadian Mental Health Association Cariboo-Chilcotin and volunteering with the Citizens on Patrol.

 

He has shown that relationship-building and collaboration are incredibly effective in leadership positions, building strong working relationships with First Nations, nonprofit societies, health authorities, and both Provincial and Federal governments to help bring more funding and services to his community.  Through this work, Michael has brought Williams Lake into the spotlight at the regional, provincial, and federal levels through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, Union of BC Municipalities, BC NDP, Assembly of First Nations, Orange Shirt Society, Moosehide Campaign, Climate Caucus, and Green Municipal Fund.

 

Our communities deserve experience with integrity. Michael has consistently demonstrated his beliefs and integrity through his involvement with the Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society, Cariboo Friendship Society, and Communities Ending Poverty.

 

How I have/will help and support young people in my community:

• I have a group of Youth that help guide me and keep my compass pointed in the right direction, including assisting me during elections.

• I follow a seven-generation principle that supports my decision-making process and helps ensure decisions advance a sustainable world seven generations into the future.  This has led me toward being an active member of the Climate Caucus and Green Municipal Fund, and Cariboo Chilcotin Conservation Society.

• I am the Founder and Executive Director of the First Nations Leadership and Governance Association, whose main goals are to help First Nations become involved in elected governance positions, by providing mentorship to potential leaders.  We have ensured that 2 out of 5 of our Board of Directors are Youth so that our goals are future-oriented for our youth.
