Preet Rai is an experienced community leader seeking election to Abbotsford City Council in the 2026 municipal election. He brings 18 years of experience as an elected Abbotsford School Trustee, including three years as Vice-Chair and leadership as Chair of the Finance, Education and Audit Committees.

A Professional Accountant from overseas by training, Preet has worked with the Government of British Columbia since 1997, bringing extensive experience in governance, financial oversight, accountability and responsible management of public resources.

Preet and his wife, Rapinder, a local educator, have called Abbotsford home for more than three decades. They raised three children in the community, all of whom attended Abbotsford public schools and now work locally. They are also proud grandparents.

Preet believes leadership starts with listening, building relationships and putting the community first.

5 Points - Support Young British Columbia

1. Create more opportunities for youth through recreation and community life
I will advocate for more accessible and affordable opportunities in sports, recreation, arts, culture and community programs, giving young people safe places to participate, build friendships and develop leadership skills.

2. Make Abbotsford a place where young people can build their future
Responsible growth should create opportunities for young people to live, work and build careers in Abbotsford. I will support better infrastructure, transportation, housing opportunities and a strong local economy that helps young people stay and succeed in our community.

3. Give young people a meaningful voice in local government
After 18 years as a School Trustee, I understand the importance of listening to young people. As a City Councillor, I will continue to engage youth and ensure their perspectives are considered when decisions are made about Abbotsford’s future.

4. Build pathways to employment, leadership and entrepreneurship
I will support partnerships among the City, schools, local businesses and community organizations to expand opportunities for mentorship, work experience, volunteering, skills development, entrepreneurship and youth leadership.

5. Promote better governance and long-term thinking
Young people will live with the consequences of today’s municipal decisions longer than anyone else. I will bring responsible financial management, transparency, accountability and long-term planning to City Hall, while ensuring today’s decisions do not unnecessarily burden future generations.
