Stephan Nieweler: Candidate for District of North Vancouver
.jpg)
Stephan Nieweler was born, raised, and educated in the District of North Vancouver: local schools, Handsworth Secondary, varsity basketball at Capilano College, then a PhD in Geography and Planning at SFU. He has spent his career solving transportation problems, with work on the Canada Line, the Evergreen Extension, and London's 2012 Olympic transport plan, and has long made the evidence-based case for North Shore rapid transit. He also owned a small jazz club, giving young local musicians a real stage to build an audience. He's running as an independent for Mayor because this community deserves leadership grounded in evidence and a real stake in its next generation.
How Stephan will advocate for and advance the interests of young British Columbians
-
Transit that doesn't require a car. A new Second Narrows bridge with HOV lanes and rail transit means real mobility for young people who depend on transit for school, work, and social life.
-
Housing young people can afford. Responsible growth and development so young adults and families aren't priced out of the community they grew up in.
-
Real stages for young artists. Having run a jazz club himself, Stephan knows what it means to give young musicians an audience. He'll back venues and policy that let North Shore artists build a career locally.
-
Better sports and outdoor recreation. A former varsity athlete, Stephan will prioritize funding and expanding courts, fields, trails, and rec facilities.
-
Local jobs, not just downtown jobs. Small-business-friendly local economic development that creates real entry-level opportunities close to home.
-
Climate action grounded in evidence. Sustainability policy that treats climate change as the defining issue it is for younger generations.
