Vinay Waraich Candidate for Abbotsford School Board

A lot of young people care about their future, but many don’t feel connected to government, don’t know where to start, or don’t feel like their voice will make a difference. Low youth turnout is part of that problem. I want to help change that.

That is a big reason why I decided to run for Abbotsford School Trustee. I grew up here and I’m a product of Abbotsford’s public school system. I still remember what it feels like to be a student trying to figure out what comes next, and I think being close in age to many of the students gives me a perspective that is often missing at the table.

At the same time, my work in public service and involvement in the community has allowed me to speak with parents, families and residents from all different backgrounds. I want to be someone who can bridge that gap between students, parents and the School Board.

My main priorities are:

Listening directly to students and making sure their feedback is brought into Board discussions.
Helping youth better understand civic engagement, government and why their voice matters.
Creating more opportunities outside the classroom through trades, athletics, clubs, leadership, mentorship and career pathways.
Strengthening communication between students, parents and the School Board.
Building stronger partnerships with local businesses, community organizations and other levels of government.
Making sure resources and supports are reaching students where they are needed most.
Encouraging more young people to volunteer, lead, vote and get involved in their communities.

For me, this campaign is bigger than simply running for a position. Abbotsford is the community that raised me, and I genuinely care about where it is going. If I can help even a few more young people realize that their voice matters and that they have a place in shaping their community, that would mean a lot to me.
