William Li is an entrepreneur and a longtime community volunteer. He immigrated to Canada at the age of seven and having graduated from SFU beedie, he built his career in international trade and finance, giving him a practical understanding of what it takes to create jobs and opportunity locally.

 

As Director of Community Service at the Rotary Club of Surrey, William has spent years connecting Surrey’s diverse communities and listening and helping those in need. He is results-oriented, with a focus on delivering. If in office he wants to see the foundation laid for generations to come. His vision is simple, a community where kids like his own daughter can grow up surrounded by kindness, inclusiveness, opportunity, and hope. A city where no one is left behind.

Policies:

 

1. Advocating for start-up grants for young entrepreneurs, alongside cutting permit red tape, so youth can build businesses and careers in Surrey.

 

2. Funded youth sports and community programs, plus three new community centres with pools, so cost isn’t the reason a young family cannot enjoy community programs. Especially youth programs during summer and spring breaks. 

 

3. Working with local non-profits to run more workshops for youth and young adults on skills, leadership and careers. 

 

4. Building a downtown with entertainment, dining, and nightlife so young people can live, work, and play in their own city. So money stays in Surrey. 

 

5. City incentives to bring businesses to Surrey, because more employers here means more jobs for graduates and a stronger local economy. 

 

6. Tackling the cost of living, starting with faster housing approvals and more rental supply, so a young person working here can afford to live here.
